Zapisy te znane s\u0105 jako: Windfall\n Elimination Provision (WEP) i Government Pension Offset (GPO). Social Security Fairness Act of 2021, H.R. 82 & S.1302<\/span><\/div>\n

\n \n The existing U.S.\n Social Security Act contains two provisions: The Windfall Elimination\n Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), which can unfairly\n reduce the Social Security benefits of legal immigrants. WEP provisions\n are unjust towards legal immigrants whose retirement benefits also come\n from their native countries.\n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n
 <\/span><\/div>\n
\n \n Immigrants working\n in the United States earn Social Security benefits. However, when an\n immigrant receives both the foreign pension for work performed in their\n native country and the Social Security benefits earned in the United\n States, the Social Security Administration considers this a \"windfall\"\n and calculates the Social Security benefits applying the so-called\n \"windfall formula.\" The above formula can significantly reduce the\n Social Security benefits paid to the worker. As a result, many\n immigrants retire with very modest combined retirement benefits, which\n place them below the poverty threshold. For years, many Polish\n immigrants have been affected by such deductions.\n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n
 <\/span><\/div>\n
\n \n Efforts have been\n made over the years to amend the Social Security Act and eliminate the\n WEP and GPO provisions, which unjustly penalize legal immigrants and\n many classes of government workers. A hard-earned small foreign\n pension should not be considered a windfall. \n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n

 The Bill that PASI is supporting is referred to as H.R. 82 and S.1302 \u2013 The Social Security Fairness Act of 2021.<\/span><\/div>\n

\n \n This\n Act eliminates the unfair \"Windfall Elimination Provision\" (WEP) for\n legal immigrants (also Polish American retirees) who earned retirement\n benefits in another country. \n <\/a>\n <\/div>\n

\n \n The\n H.R. 82 and S. 1302 aims to repeal the Government Pension Offset (GPO)\n and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) from the existing Social\n Security Act. In addition to negatively impacting the disability\n benefits of many, these provisions are unfair to countless government\n workers and legal immigrants because they drastically reduce their\n Social Security retirement benefits (up to 50% of their non-Social\n Security pension). The GPO and WEP provisions are especially unjust\n towards legal immigrants whose small retirement pensions come from\n their native countries. Many of your constituents affected by these\n provisions fled persecution under repressive governments. \n \n Active\n since April, 2020, and steadily growing since then, PASI now boasts\n members in more than 26 states and sympathizers in six\n countries. One major reason for joining PASI is to become informed\n of current affairs that touch Poland-United States relations.\n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n

\n Dariusz Gula\u0144czyk<\/span>\n of Elgin, Illinois explains, \u201cMy motives for joining PASI were typical,\n I think. I can see how terribly weak (in political terms) Polish\n Americans are at this moment. We have economic and demographic\n potential, which doesn't translate in any way to our influence on\n important decisions or our ability to defend our interests or interests\n of our old country. One of the examples of Polish ethnic group weakness\n was the passing of S.447 by the US Congress and \"modifications\" of World\n War II history with respect to Poland. Polish Americans don't have any\n effective \"tools\" which they could use to prevent such events. And such\n situations cannot be explained by ideological divisions, since other\n ethnic groups can be even more divided, but at the same time powerful\n and influential. Most new immigrants from Poland think, that since they\n have already found themselves in a \"paradise,\" they don't need to get\n involved in any type of organization or give anything for the public\n cause. It's a paradise, anyway. They are perhaps members of a church, or\n a hunting club and that's ok, but they won't escape from politics by\n being passive, or limiting political activity to voting only. If a group\n separates itself from politics, that will make them prey, not only for\n politicians.\u201d\n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n
