Protect Social Security and Medicare

August marks the 91st anniversary of Social Security, and we recently celebrated another birthday for Medicare—two of the most successful and valued programs in our nation's history.

As these milestone anniversaries remind us of their importance, Congress must come together in a bipartisan effort to ensure the long-term solvency of both Social Security and Medicare. We believe that preserving these earned benefits should rise above partisan politics. Our nation's retirees deserve the confidence that the programs they paid into throughout their working years will remain strong for current and future generations.

MESSAGE

As your constituent, I urge you to work with your colleagues in a bipartisan manner to ensure the long-term solvency of Social Security and Medicare. August marks the 91st anniversary of Social Security, and we recently celebrated another birthday for Medicare—two of the most successful and valued programs in our nation's history.

These programs are not entitlements in the traditional sense. They represent benefits that American workers have earned through a lifetime of payroll contributions. For generations, Social Security and Medicare have provided financial security and access to health care for millions of retirees, people with disabilities, and their families. The need for action is urgent. Current projections indicate that the trust funds face insolvency in the coming years if Congress does not act, making bipartisan solutions more important than ever.

These are earned benefits that Americans have funded throughout their working lives and must be protected for current and future retirees. If you are a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, I also ask that you sponsor and support H.R. 7361 to complete the repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). Thank you for your leadership and your commitment to protecting America's retirees.

Respectfully,
